The challenge with a beautiful full moon and the variety of colors ringing it is that if the shutter's open long enough to take it all in, the moon moves. If the moon is clear, it's too fast to see the colors.

I'm sure there are brilliant photographers out there who know how to manage this. I am not one of them. So I just take a bunch with a lot of different settings. :D

30 seconds is about as far as you can go without orbital movement smudging the shot. The longer the focal length - the more you zoom in - then the more sensitive this becomes.

Love the series...the melding of the light is beautifully abstract.

This was shot last Friday night. The previous post was from Saturday morning. It was a very good full moon. :D

I like the first one best. Very nice!

For a full moon in a clear sky, the best settings I've found are 1/200 second at f/8.0 ISO 200 with a 300mm focal length. YMMV, but that's how I did it back in October (see my Halloween Sky Watch Friday).

But all the same, the flare of light is appealing even without the detail of the moon surface.

Nice series!

Okay, I should clarify - it wasn't that my moon shot didn't come out clear, it was that I wanted to capture the ring of color around the moon and wasn't able to do so.

Sorry if I sounded displeased with my pix. Just couldn't accomplish what I wanted.

These photos are gorgeous. Each one brings something special and unique to this landscape. Love the buildings you can see in silhouette on the third photo.

Moon shots are so hard. I like the first one best.

I think I like the first one best too, but they work really nicely together as a series.

Great shot! I especially love the first one.

I love the crispness and clarity of that first shot. Nice work. I have the "eye" but not the technical expertise to overcome these types of obstacles and challenges. And I love it when other people can.

Thank you for sharing these. They're wonderful.

The first one looks like the black sky has been erased so we can see the moon and the last one looks like someone put a giant blue sheet in front of the very bright moon. Very cool looking effects. :)
